Cooking Gumbo for the President
The American chef Leah Chase is something of a legend. The 93-year-old from New Orleans has cooked meals at her family restaurant for Martin Luther King, Ray Charles and Barack Obama. Her story inspired the Disney film The Princess and the Frog and she has just become the first African-American to receive the prestigious James Beard Foundation lifetime-achievement award for cooking. The restaurant she runs is called Dooky Chase, named after her husband and his father whose family started it in 1941.
