A wave of mud: Brazil's Samarco mine disaster
On November 5th 2015, a dam holding back waste from a huge iron ore mine in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais collapsed, releasing billions of gallons of sludge onto the countryside below. 19 people were killed and the homes and livelihoods of countless others were ruined. The 麻豆社's Jon Bithrey meets the residents of Paracatu, a village more than 60km from the site of the mine that was deluged in mud, and hears how thousands have been thrown out of work by the disaster.
