Thierry Henry defends Raheem Sterling over āunfairā criticism
World Cup winner Thierry Henry has defended England winger Raheem Sterling, saying some of the criticism he has received during Euro 2016 is āunfairā.
Sterling was substituted at half-time during Englandās 2-1 win over Wales and has been widely criticised for his performance.
āRaheem Sterling has a great future but he is not the finished article - people are treating him like he is the finished article,ā Henry said.
āI was not the same player when I 27 as I was when I was 20.
āI wasnāt that type of player when I was 20. I struggled. I struggled with life and I struggled with everything and itās a normal thing,ā he added.
The former Arsenal forward also says Sterling shouldnāt come under increased scrutiny because of the Ā£49m fee Manchester City paid Liverpool.
āI think itās a bit unfair in a way as he didnāt say ābuy me for that type of moneyā,ā said Henry.
āHeās a good player, letās see,ā he added.
