Cyril the Squirrel has set up home in offices in Woolwich, and a petition has been signed by over a thousand people for him to stay. The pest controllers were called after Cyril was allegedly 鈥榟iding nuts in pot plants鈥.
Anthony Coyne works at Thinkerdoers - one of the offices that Cyril has been visiting. He said: 鈥淗e comes in and does tricks for us, and we set him little challenges to do like the nut testing. A few people have complained but personally I think they are scoundrels, how can they get rid of him?鈥
Wild animals such as the grey squirrel are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. They can be caught and killed legally including live-catch cage traps, approved spring traps or a specific rodenticide poison that is only approved for use against grey squirrels by a local authority or professional operator.
After the campaign caught fire, Anthony is positive about the squirrel鈥檚 chances: 鈥淢y hopes for Cyril are good; I鈥檝e just seen him and he is completely oblivious to what鈥檚 going on. Hopefully, we will save him鈥.
