The young woman challenging stereotypes in northern Nigeria
Fed up with the way that most news portrayed her home city of Maiduguri in northern Nigeria, Fati Abubakar, 30, picked up a camera and began recording daily life around her. Inspired by social media accounts like Humans of New York, her @BitsofBorno Instagram and facebook accounts have thousands of followers. As a young woman with a camera she is challenging stereotypes at home and in the images that many people see from the area, most often associated with crisis, insurgency and tales of Boko Haram.
