Widow: I was stabbed in same spot husband was killed

A widow has given up running her newsagents after she was stabbed in the same spot her husband was murdered.

In an assault on Christmas Eve, Nirupa Patel was then beaten, dragged along the floor and slashed across her face. Her attacker Thomasz Jaworski was later jailed for 12 years for attempted murder.

In June 2009 her husband, Jashbai, was murdered in the newsagents they had run on the corner of a Luton street for 23 years.

His murderer, Richard Dettmer, was given life for an attack motivated apparently by a desire to steal whatever loose change he could get from the till.

Nirupa told Daily鈥檚 Adrian Chiles that the attack has led to her losing her confidence and she now fears walking the streets.

鈥淲alking the streets, I just look down, hoping nobody is coming behind me. I feel like someone has given me a life sentence.鈥
