Dog Law Solicitor: 'Any dog is capable of being dangerous'
Battersea Dogs and Cats Home is calling on the Government to review the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, saying current legislation is "flawed" and instead should target irresponsible owners.
The law - which banned the Pit bull terrier, Japanese tosa, Dogo argentino and Fila braziliero breeds based on their physical appearance - was introduced 25 years ago.
Dog Law Solicitor, Trevor Cooper, who deals with any canine related legislation said 'Any dog is capable of being dangerous' but no particular breed has a 'heightened risk'.
He went on to say '86% of the breeders and trainers that responded to a survey said that the dog's aggressive nature is more likely to be because of the way they've been brought up by the owner'.
