GCSE results were published this week and show that the gender gap in attainment has widened further this year, with 71.3% of entries by girls getting a C grade or above compared with 62.4% of boys.
Dame Alice Hudson, head teacher at the Twyford Trust, which runs two mixed state schools in London, and Professor Alan Smithers, director at the Centre for Education and Employment Research at the University of Buckingham, discuss the reasons behind the gap.
