From Ugandan slum to international chess player
The remarkable story of a young Ugandan girl, who grew up in one of Kampala's poorest slums only to become an international chess player, is truly inspirational. So much so that the story of Phiona Mutesi has now been turned into a Disney film. The movie is based on the book about her story and is called The Queen of Katwe. When asked if she would like to see the film by the author, Phiona said "Well Tim, I know how the story goes".
The author of the book, Tim Crothers, has been telling us more about Phiona.
