A statue of Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has been unveiled outside St James' Park, to honour his career at the club.

The 10ft brass statue cost 拢250,000 and was funded by the family of ex-chairman Freddy Shepherd.

The former England captain told 麻豆社 5 live's Adrian Chiles, that it was a "surreal" moment for him.

"I'm very proud and I'm very honoured. I never ever did I feel, when I left home at 15, that I would be here talking about a statue of myself".
