Martyn Rooney: Russians went from 'club runners to Usain Bolt’
Team GB's men's 4x400m relay team are set to be awarded bronze for 2008 Olympics after a member of the Russian team failed a drugs test.
Martyn Rooney, a member of the team, said “It’s incredible to be an Olympic medallist; it’s eight years late but I’ll take it. We feel robbed of the moment though – we are athletes and that’s what we are here for.”
Denis Alexeev, 28, tested positive for the a banned substance - which lead to the disqualification of the Russian’s eight years on.
“As a team we had raced them earlier in the year and they ran 3:02, later in the year they ran 2:58 – that’s like going from club runner to Usain Bolt in a couple of months,” added the runner on the Russian team.
