Could these new seats solve train capacity problems?
New seats which could solve the problem of over-crowding on trains may be installed on some carriages within the next year. Designers PriestmanGoode have developed two new seating solutions called 鈥楬orizon鈥 and 鈥業sland Bay.鈥
Horizon allows between 20-30% more seats per carriage (based on a typical commuter train), as well as increased standing space.
Island Bay provides regular seats during off-peak, and increases standing capacity during peak times by 15-20%.
Paul Priestman is the designer and chairman of PriestmanGoode and says the seats 鈥渨ork very well and comfortably, and takes up less space.鈥
