Darren Campbell: Death of my friend inspired me to Olympic gold
Darren Campbell says the death of his friend when he was 17-years-old was what inspired him to Olympic gold.
Campbell was victorious in the men鈥檚 4x100m relay at Athens 2004 Olympics alongside teammates Marlon Devonish, Jason Gardener and Mark Lewis-Francis.
The former British sprinter recalls how he was inspired to make something of his life, following his friend鈥檚 murder on the estate where he grew up.
鈥淭hat image can break and destroy you, but I decided that it was going to be an inspiration,鈥 he told Eleanor Oldroyd on 5 live Sport.
鈥淚 wouldn鈥檛 let his life be in vain. My focus on the line was always him," Campbell added.
