The Nottingham man who founded AC Milan
It's 100 years since the man who founded AC Milan died. Herbert Kilpin, from Nottinghamshire, will have a plaque unveiled in his memory by the Italian football giants.
Robert Nieri has spent the last 9 years researching and writing a book on this unsung Nottingham hero, he said: 鈥淗e was an amateur football, he wasn鈥檛 good enough to play for County or Forest, so he worked in a textile factory. He eventually moved to Milan to work and established Milan Football and Cricket Club.鈥
He played football until 43, despite being a heavy smoker and drinking whisky before, during and after matches. He also took Milan to their first three titles, but died in obscurity in 1916.
鈥淗e鈥檚 recognised more and more by the fans, and the club is seeing the love and devotion they have for him,鈥 Robert added.
