As we head towards winter, men and women could find themselves arguing about the thermostat 鈥� because of differences in their biological make-up.

Researchers at Lancaster University say men and women have different temperature comfort ranges due to the differences in the distribution of fat between the sexes.

Dr Adam Taylor, Senior Lecturer in Anatomy at Lancaster spoke to us about his research.

鈥淔emales generally have more body fat than men, while men have more muscle,鈥� he told 5 live.

鈥淲omen have a thicker layer of fat under the skin and when we get cold, the muscle is what shivers to keep us warm,鈥� he added. 鈥淚t takes longer for the heat to get through that layer women have.鈥�
