How a teacher overcame her embarrassment to become the worldâs loudest person
Annalisa Flanagan, a schoolteacher and the current Guinness World Record holder for the title of worldâs loudest person, told 5 live that she almost gave the competition âa missâ as âit looked embarrassingâ. Annalisa set the record when attending a church camp ârecord nightâ in 1992. Annalisa explained what changed her mind:
âI have a twin sister; a couple of the girls came over and told me that she was winning the shouting competition so it was very much: If she can do it, so can Iâ
Annalisaâs record breaking attempt came in at 121.7 decibels, which is 1.7 dBA louder than a thunderclap. She added: âI shouted the word quiet; my inspiration was the 6 girls who I was looking after for the week, who never seemed to want to go to bed or anything. I thought of them and shouted as loud as I could!â
