Charlie Adam: 'I wanted to win the Checkatrade Trophy'
Charlie Adam says he enjoyed playing in the Checkatrade Trophy, and saw it as a competition he wanted to win.
The competition has been heavily criticised for allowing Premier League clubs to field U23 teams, and for controversial rules that insist clubs must field five ‘first-team’ players – five who played in the team’s last league match, five who will play in the next league game or the club’s five highest appearance-makers this season.
The Stoke midfielder was part of the team that lost 1-0 away to League One's Bradford, and whilst Adam admits the competition "hasn't worked", he does believe it was a good experience for the younger players at the club.
