Ministers consider council tax rise to cover social care
Government considering plans to allow councils to increase taxes to fund care system.
Ministers are considering an increase in council tax to try to prop up England's struggling social care system.
Care homes closing, complaints from those that remain in them rising, hospital beds blocked - that is the toxic mixture of problems facing a social care system which councils are struggling to fund.
Martin Green, Chief executive of Care England, the body which represents independent care service providers, said that the industry is "reaching a crisis point".
Also in the programme, Izzi Seccombe, chair of the Local Government Association's Community wellbeing board and Stephen Dorrell, former Conservative Health Secretary discuss what needs to be done.
