Lord Ricketts: risk of 'politicising civil service'

Former permanent secretary at the Foreign Office, Lord Ricketts, said replacing the ambassador to the EU with a pro-Brexit candidate 'politicises the civil service' in a way that has never been done before in the UK.

Lord Ricketts' comments follow the resignation of the UK's top diplomat in Brussels, Sir Ivan Rogers. He had been due to play a key role in Brexit talks expected to start within months.
