The former England manager Graham Taylor said he sometimes "felt in danger" from people who had seen the picture of him depicted as a turnip in The Sun newspaper. It appeared alongside a headline which read "Swedes 2 Turnips 1".

In 2007 he told Paddy O'Connell about several incidents where people "wanted to actually do me physical hurt and felt that they could talk to me as they wish."
