'Chinese football is replicating Premier League from 20 years ago'
Chinese Super League clubs鈥� current spending is no different to what Premier League clubs did 20 years ago, says New York Times journalist Rory Smith.
Smith compared the transfers of players such as Ramires, Carlos Tevez and Asamoah Gyan with signings made by English top-flight clubs from Italy in the mid-1990s.
"Serie A looked at the Premier League and laughed,鈥� he said. 鈥淭hey thought it was a retirement home.鈥�
