Chris Sutton believes there is a correlation between his father's dementia and the 鈥渓unacy鈥� of heading medicine balls in training.

The former Celtic and Blackburn striker was talking following the news of Ryan Mason's head injury sustained at the weekend.

The Hull City player, 25, was taken to hospital following a clash of heads with Chelsea defender Gary Cahill 13 minutes into the Premier League match at Stamford Bridge. Hull have since released a statement saying he is making "excellent progress" after fracturing his skull.

"Going back decades there's a correlation now between head injuries and Alzheimer's now," he told Mark Chapman and Andy Townsend on 5 live Sport.

"My father, who was a footballer, has Alzheimer's really badly. He used to train at Norwich heading medicine balls - lunacy really."
