Aretha Franklin called him "one of the greatest soul singers of all time", and he can claim to being one of the most fascinating figures in the history of soul and R 'n' B.
The sixties legend Wilson Pickett died in 2006, but his first biography has only just been published.
In The Midnight Hour was written by the veteran journalist and rock biographer, Tony Fletcher.
He told James Coomarasamy about the troubled life of the singer known as "Wicked" Pickett.
