Ranieri fairy tale ‘shattered’ for Italians
Claudio Ranieri says his "dream died" when he was sacked as Leicester manager nine months after winning the Premier League.
There wasn't just shock here in the UK at the surprise sacking, at least one Italian paper lambasted the 'ungrateful English' for Ranieri's demise.
Italian football expert Paolo Bandini said: “Italians thought ‘this can never happen in Italy’, but they thought England was different, and a fairy tale can come true, but that fairy tale has been shattered.”
“They have a Roy of the Rovers idea of English football, it’s such a romantic and different kind of football. They are willing to indulge these fairy tales, and it feels like England has been brought back down to grim Earth” added Paolo.
