Mum describes agonising journey to help autistic son
A desperate mother has described her year-long journey to get help for her severely autistic teenager, who was being kept in a residential psychiatric unit.
Isabelle Garnett called Adrian Chiles a year ago while listening to his programme, 5 live Daily. She was at the end of her tether because of the place where her son, Matthew, was being treated.
That started a battle to get him moved to the right place 鈥 and he鈥檚 now in a supported living centre with specialist care provided by autism experts.
"Matthew's progress in the last couple of months has exceeded our hope for him鈥, she told Adrian in an update on Matthew鈥檚 condition. 鈥淗e's recovering at an incredible rate and that's thanks to the autism specific care."
