New ‘F’ rating highlights female roles in cinema
A new feminist film classification has been created to highlight the roles of women who appear on and off screen.
More than twenty thousand films have been given the F rating so far. It’s inspired by the Bechdel test, which requires a film to have at least two women in it, who talk to each other about something besides a man.
The new F rating has been taken up by more than 40 UK cinemas and festivals
5 live Breakfast asked women in Salford to re-create some classic films so they would pass the criteria.
