Why hand-me-downs are no longer good enough for kids
Sales of children鈥檚 clothes are booming. In 2015 the global kidswear market was worth about 拢100 billion, that鈥檚 around 12% of clothing trading as a whole. Here in the UK the analysts Euromonitor predict that the market will grow 13% in the next five years to about 拢6 billion. Fashion houses like Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana now have extensive children鈥檚 ranges and Victoria Beckham has produced her first range for the under-16s. Are parents now willing to spend as much, or more, on their children鈥檚 clothes, than they do on their own? Shari Vahl talks to Sharon Beardsworth, who runs Emile et Rose babywear and is the former chair of the National Children's Wear Association.
