Colm Meaney: I didn't think of 'the ramifications' of playing Martin McGuinness
Actor Colm Meaney who is playing Martin McGuinness in new film The Journey has said he accepted the part because the script was 'beautifully written and he didn't think of the possible 'ramifications' of playing the divisive figure.
The movie imagines the conversations between McGuinness and DUP Leader and former First Minister of Northern Ireland, Ian Paisley as the two men came together in 2006, during talks aimed at restarting the Northern Ireland Assembly.
Colm said after he was sent the script:
"I have to say I was thrilled, I started reading it and I couldn't put it down. I read it straight through in one sitting and laughed out loud at points, and literally cried towards the end."
