What 'Leitkultur' means to the Germans
Bach and Goethe are central to German interior minister Thomas de Maziere's plan to foster Leitkultur, or a 'dominant culture'. Leitkultur promotes the view that immigrants have to assimilate to a set of shared cultural values. According to Mr de Maziere, in Germany, "we shake hands, show our faces, and tell people what our names are. We don't do the burka." But comedian Christian Schulte-Loh doesn't share his view.
