Eddie O鈥橲ullivan: The pressure is telling on Gatland
Lions head coach Warren Gatland is feeling the tension just one match into their New Zealand tour, according to Eddie O鈥橲ullivan.
Gatland responded irritably to questions during a news conference in Auckland on Monday about his side鈥檚 style of play.
Ex-Ireland boss O'Sullivan added: 鈥淚'm surprised a coach of his experience got sucked into the 鈥榃arrenball鈥 debate. It has put pressure on the team straight away.鈥
The Lions laboured to a 13-7 victory over the Provincial Barbarians on Saturday.
O鈥橲ullivan, who was an assistant coach to Sir Clive Woodward on the 2005 tour, warned that Gatland taking umbrage with journalists was likely to play into the All Blacks鈥 hands.
鈥淚f the New Zealanders feel they can go for him, they will,鈥 he said.
