Can you spot when someone is drowning?
August is the month that most fatal accidents happen on the UK's coasts. The number of deaths has not fallen in recent years despite several safety campaigns.
Francesco Pia, a drowning prevention researcher, told Radio 4's PM it is not always obvious to the "untrained eye" that someone is in trouble and it may just look like the person is "playing in the water".
He said it was a "popular misconception" that people drowning are able to call or wave for help.
