Irish border: 'It'll be a smuggler's charter'

Plans for immigration checks between Ireland and the UK set out by government

The government has set out the UK's negotiating position on what should happen to the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic once Brexit happens.

Fianna Fail Senator Mark Daly tells Today: "This is vital for the peace process that there is no re-imposition of border posts or border checks on this island." He adds: "It will be a smuggler's charter, there are over 300 miles between the north and the south."

James Brokenshire is the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland. He insists to John Humphrys that a border deal with the Republic is "realistic".
