Where a digit sits in a number tells you its value 鈥� it鈥檚 place value. Whether it鈥檚 in the hundreds, tens or units position changes the size and value of a number. In the number 235 鈥� the 3 is in the tens position 鈥� meaning it鈥檚 worth three tens - or thirty. In the number 3000 鈥� the number 3 is in the thousands position meaning it鈥檚 three thousand.
