Vauxhall: Job cuts bad 'for North West' says union
Manufacturing union Unite says the loss of 400 jobs at the Vauxhall plant in Cheshire will have "a knock on effect on the local supply chain".
The job losses at the Ellesmere Port factory follow a recent decision by the defence manufacturer BAe Systems to cut nearly 2,000 jobs, many of those also in the North West of England.
Tony Burke, assistant general secretary of the Unite union told Radio 4's World at One that the job losses "are bad news for workers at Ellesmere Port and very bad news for manufacturing in the North West".
