A life spent challenging prejudice
Traditional Japanese values centering on the family and social conformity still make it very hard for gay people to be open about their sexuality. Embarrassment and denial are common. Japan's most prominent and most respected LGBT figure is called Pink Bear. He uses poetry to tell his life story and struggle, as he told the 麻豆社's Roger Hearing in the Ni-Chome gay district of Tokyo.
