Increasing broadband speeds by 2020

Digital minister says the government cares deeply about everyone getting faster broadband

In the election earlier this year the Conservatives put a Universal Service Obligation on broadband in their manifesto - by 2020 every home and business in Britain would have access to high speed broadband.

BT, which is responsible for the infrastructure, have been negotiating with the government for months, offering to connect 99% of UK premises to get high speed broadband.

The government have rejected that offer.

Matt Hancock, Minister of State for Digital Policy at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, told the Today programme the government was delivering on its manifesto pledge.
