National Crime Agency: 700% rise in abuse image referrals
The Head of the National Crime Agency says there has been a 700% increase in referrals of child abuse images from online providers to the police since 2013.
Lynne Owens, who has served as Director-General of the NCA since January 2016, tells Radio 4's World at One she feels the technology industry could do more to track down sex offenders who prey on children.
" I would like them to proactively look for the images...and I think they should have a responsibility to share intelligence with us about the people that are setting up those sites and to take the images down far more quickly than they currently do."
