A young woman who has had a stammer since childhood has gained confidence in her voice through writing and singing songs.

Jessie Stride was bullied at school for the way she spoke:

鈥淚 am such a talkative, confident person, and before everyone just thought that I was really shy.鈥�

鈥淲hen I would sing, I wouldn鈥檛 stammer, so that鈥檚 how I expressed myself鈥�, said Jessie.

鈥淲hen I sung I was just me, and not the person who was labelled to have a stammer.鈥�

鈥淚t just really helped me to find my voice and to be a lot more accepting to the fact that I have a stammer鈥�, added the 21-year-old.

Jessie鈥檚 song 鈥楥ontrol鈥� is about living with a stammer, and the music video features other young stammerers.
