Flying the plane with nuclear weapons
Dick Russell was an RAF pilot during the Falklands Black Buck Raid
For the decades of the cold war if Britain was to drop a nuclear bomb on the Soviet Union it would have been by plane. In the officers mess at RAF Morham we met Dick Russell who was a pilot of Victors, one of the planes which carried nuclear weapons. He was also sent to the Falklands on the Black Buck Raid. Its mission - while a task force was on its way by sea - was to disable the airstrip in Port Stanley and to send an early signal to the Argentinians.
