Honouring Leonard Bernstein

A special series of performances at the Proms will mark a century since his birth

In the 1950s, West Side Story, a musical based on gang wars mixed with Shakespeare, was a revolutionary idea. Its composer Leonard Bernstein was one of the most influential musicians of the 20th Century. This year, the centenary of his birth will be marked with a special series of performances at the Proms. To mark what would have been his 100th birthday there will be a Proms debut for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra under Music Director Marin Alsop, a former student of his. Leonard Bernstein's daughter, Jamie, speaks about his life and work.
