Illegal immigration 'only controlled by ID cards'
Former Home Secretary Ken Clarke says targets to help control illegal immigration "are fairly useless" and calls for an introduction of identity cards to help the situation.
The MP for Rushcliffe tells Radio 4's World at One that "because we have so many illegals, we don't actually know what net migration is and we're spending a fortune trying to devise a method of working out who's left".
He added "trying to control mass immigration of the kind we now have coming from Africa and the Middle East, without an ID card law is, I think, impossible".
