One of Sollima鈥檚 most often-performed pieces. It exists in a number of different scorings. This version for four cellos and orchestra is receiving its premiere.
The composer and cellist Giovanni Sollima (a 鈥榗razy Sicilian鈥, according to his colleague Yo-Yo Ma) has combined his vocations as performer and creator from the very beginning. Nowadays his work extends from exploration of the Baroque composer Giovanni Battista Costanzi to writing music for film, theatre, dance and installations, as well as concert works. Drawing on a huge range of influences, from Baroque to world music to heavy metal, his music is regarded as 鈥榩ost-Minimalist鈥 and is perhaps best exemplified by Violoncelles, vibrez!, originally written for two cellos and orchestra.
