Brazil has elected the far-right Jair Bolsonaro as president, with a 55% majority.
Brazil has elected the far-right Jair Bolsonaro as president, with a 55% majority. Bolsonaro has generated much controversy for his harsh rhetoric about various minority groups in Brazil, and small outbreaks of violence erupted after the results were announced. Daniel Gallas is on the streets of S茫o Paulo and gives us the mood on the street. And James N. Green of Brown University in Rhode Island outlines some of the left鈥檚 fears about a Bolsonaro presidency.
Meanwhile, an election in Georgia is going to a second round, but in contrast to Brazil polarisation is hard to see as more than 70% of voters do not know who they even support.
Plus: In South Africa a major summit aimed at attracting foreign investors wrapped up over the weekend. For three days, fund managers, company chief executives and government ministers gathered in Johannesburg to find ways to make Africa鈥檚 most developed economy more appealing to overseas investors.
