The Years is by Annie Ernaux and is translated by Alison L Strayer. This book is an ambitious attempt to write the autobiography of a generation. The narrative of the years 1941 to 2006 in France is told through the lens of memory, impressions, photos, books, advertising and news. All of twentieth century French history is told via the life of Annie Ernaux.
