In Puerto Rico #RickyRenunci贸 has been trending on social media - it means "Ricky quits".

Governor Ricardo Rossell贸 has now announced he will resign. He has been at the centre of a group text message scandal. The leaked messages revealed sexist and homophobic comments. On Sunday he said, "I have made mistakes and I have apologised."

Several of the texts mocked victims of Hurricane Maria that devastated the island in 2017. It is thought the hurricane may have led to more than 4,000 deaths.

Hundreds of thousands of protesters demanded he quit and there were celebrations on the streets of the capital San Juan when he made his announcement on Wednesday.

Maria is one of the demonstrators.
