Escaping Uganda for being gay
A woman has returned to the UK after her deportation to Uganda was overturned
A woman who was sent back to Uganda from the UK in 2013 after her asylum claim was rejected has returned after a judge ruled her case was treated unfairly. Her claim was based on being unable to live openly as a lesbian in Uganda, where homosexuality is illegal.
The Home Office is appealing the judge's decision. They told us: 鈥淭he UK has a proud record of providing protection for asylum seekers fleeing persecution because of their sexual orientation or gender identity, and is committed to delivering an asylum system that is responsive to all forms of persecution.鈥
Today's Mishal Husain spoke to the woman, whose words are spoken by an actor to protect her identity.
