'It was tough being openly gay in the police in 1970s'
Jackie Malton provided the inspiration for Prime Suspect character DCI Jane Tennyson. She joined the police in 1970, and for many years she was the only openly gay senior female officer in the Metropolitan Police, rising to the rank of Detective Chief Inspector.
She told 麻豆社 Radio 5 Live presenter Emma Barnett about the homophobia she faced at the time and how she thinks the force has changed since.
