On Black Friday - a sales bonanza which has sometimes seen customers physically fight over bargains - community groups in Yorkshire, in the north of England, have created "Buy Nowt Day".

Last year, British shoppers splurged almost 拢8 billion online alone; "Buy Nowt Day" is aimed at helping people avoid the temptation to rack up debt.

Ian Brewer, Bradford Credit Union's financial inclusion officer, explains what the new event involves.
