GP: ‘We need a culture change from patients’

A GP has told Radio 5 Live that a “culture change is needed from patients across the UK. New NHS figures show the number of patients registered with a GP in England has risen by nearly 7% since 2014, while the number of fully-qualified, full-time doctors has fallen by 3.7%.

Staff at Bolton Medical Centre have told 5 Live about the pressures they are facing on the frontline of the NHS, including the “pressures of workload and “the relentless requests for appointments.

Dr Atif Shafique also told 5 Live’s Tony Livesey there needs to be “culture change from patients to help cut down on DNAs (Don Not Attends) and ease the pressures on GPs.

Director of SSP Health, Dr Shikha Pitalia, says that DNAs who are “wasting appointments leave doctors feeling “very frustrated because they “could have helped somebody else.
