Classics with NOW - Verdi 'Four Sacred Pieces'
This week in Classics with NOW, we鈥檙e revisiting our performance of Verdi鈥檚 Four Sacred Pieces from November 2017 with the 麻豆社 National Chorus of Wales and conductor Xian Zhang.
Verdi was well-known for his opera writing, but also wrote some sacred music. These four choral works - Ave Maria, Stabat Mater, Laudi alla Vergine Maria and Te Deum - were written separately during the last decades of Verdi鈥檚 life and published together in 1898. The first performance (without the Ave Maria) was in the same year.
The Four Sacred Pieces take us from serene to dramatic, so there鈥檚 something for every mood this Friday afternoon.
